Description
Westleton Heath – Journey for Wildness Workshop – 21st August 2021 8am – 11am
Journey for wildness photography workshops in aid of the John Muir Trust
Connect with wild places and help raise funds for the John Muir Trust. This 3 hour workshop is all about connecting with the landscape in one of Suffolk’s most beautiful heathland locations – Westleton Heath
Westleton Heath is an area of heathland just outside Dunwich. It is part of the Sandlings heathlands which once covered much of the Suffolk Coastline. The area is made up of large expanses if heather, silver birch plantations and some lovely woodland surrounding the Dunwich River. The aim of the session is to explore some of these habitats and get to know them more intimately using the camera as a means to observe and connect with the landscape.
These are not technical sessions on how to use a camera. They are suitable for phone cameras, compacts or DSLR’s. The idea is to observe the landscape, increase your knowledge of the location and think about how you can use all the interesting observations you make in your photography. The session will feature different challenges designed to promote a more thoughtful approach to landscape photography and hopefully help you engage more fully with the natural world.
£20 from every booking will go directly to the John Muir Trust Journey for Wildness Campaign.

I undertook my own journey for wildness in 2020 which was all about my connection with Hollesley Marshes; an RSPB reserve just a short walk from my house. You can read more about the connections I made and how nature kept me grounded during a very challenging year. For more information please visit gillmoon.com/projects/grounded-book/
